GCC embassies open to public as mourners bid farewell to Abe

DUBAI: Consulates and embassies in the GCC are opening to the public, for those wishing to pay their condolences after the death of former Japanese Prime Minister ABE Shinzo on July 8.

The Japanese Embassy in Saudi Arabia is hosting a condolences books signing at Japanese ambassador Fumio Iwai’s residence in Riyadh on July 17-18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Consulate of Japan in Dubai is similarly hosting the public on July 13-15, so that mourners that sign a book of condolences in honor of Abe.

The consulate is also accepting email condolences during that period.

Abe was assassinated on July 8 during a campaign speech in Nara prefecture. On Tuesday, a private funeral service was held for Abe at central Tokyo’s Zojoji temple.

Following the ceremony, the hearse bearing Abe’s body will proceed through downtown Tokyo.
