RIYADH: Saudi Arabia shot down drones on Thursday targeting the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh and Shaybah oil field in the south-east.
The Ministry of Defense reported a number of attacks in a series of posts on X during the day.
“An enemy drone was shot down while attempting to approach” the Diplomatic Quarter in the capital, a ministry spokesman said early Thursday.
At least five drones were “intercepted and destroyed” later in the day in the Empty Quarter “heading toward the Shaybah oil field,” the statements said.
Earlier, the minstry said at least 20 drones were shot down in the Eastern Region.
Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries have faced waves of Iranian missile and drone attacks since Israel and the US launched a war against Iran on Fenruary 28.
The attacks have targeted Prince Sultan Air Base, the US embassy in Riyadh, oil fields and energy infrastructure.
Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman condemned the attacks during a call with his Turkish counterpart.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry welcomed the UN Security Council’s adoption of a resolution on Wednesday demanding an end to iran’s attacks on Gulf states and Jordan.
