The Government of Japan welcomed Thursday the signing of the Riyadh Agreement between the Government of Yemen and the South Transitional Council on November 5 "as an important step toward the stability in Yemen."

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said the Government of Japan hopes that all stakeholders will steadily implement the Agreement and that it will lead to an early settlement of conflicts in Yemen.

Japan applauds the mediation effort by the Government of Saudi Arabia which played an important role in achieving the Agreement, the Ministry said.

The Government of Japan has engaged in humanitarian assistance for Yemen "and remains committed to continuously contributing to the region in cooperation with countries concerned so as to maintain and reinforce the peace and stability in the Middle East" it said.
