Three dead and 21 hurt in fire at Al-Malaz prison

Three people were killed and 21 injured in a fire at ward 7 of Al-Malaz prison in Riyadh early on Thursday.

A spokesman for the Directorate General of Prisons said staff reacted quickly to evacuate the affected areas. “Emergency services were provided to the injured and they were taken to hospital,” he added.

Firefighters managed to control the fire and prevent it from spreading. Maj. Gen. Ayoub bin Hijab bin Nakhit said an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the blaze, and any action deemed necessary as a result will be taken.
