After being named the highest-grossing rookie artist by the biggest music provider in Japan “Oricon”, K-pop girl group LE SSERAFIM are set to release their second Japanese single “UNFORGIVEN ” on August 23.

LE SSERAFIM is a girl group consisting of Korean and Japanese members. The five-member group debuted in Japan in January, following their Korean debut in 2022, with the Japanese version of their EP “Fearless”. 

The EP, consisting of the Japanese version of “Fearless”, the Japanese version of “Blue Flame”, and an original Japanese song titled “Choices”, which is the theme song of the Japanese drama “300 Yen: How to Enrich Life”, became the highest first-week sales by a K-Pop artist in Japan. The band also achieved double platinum status, which has never been achieved by a non-Japanese artist, in their debut week. 

Oricon declared the band the top-selling rookie artist in the first half of 2023, achieving sales worth 1.18 billion yen from December 2022 to June 2023. The band is the first rookie group to top 1 billion yen in sales. 

Released in May, LE SSERAFIM’s first album, “UNFORGIVEN”, became very successful in Japan as it topped the Oricon and Billboard Japan charts, earning “Gold” certification by the Recording Industry Association of Japan. 

The band is now preparing to release the Japanese version of the album, which will include the Japanese version of “UNFORGIVEN (feat. Nile Rodgers), the Japanese version of “ANTIFRAGILE”, as well as original Japanese songs.

Last Tuesday, the band surprised fans by releasing their brand new Japanese original song “Jewelry”, produced by Japanese-singer songwriter Imase, who recently went viral on social media for his song “Night Dancer”. 

LE SSERAFIM will be performing in Tokyo on August 30 and 31 and in Osaka on September 6 and 7 as part of their first solo tour “Flame Rises”.
