DUBAI: Japanese author Toshikazu Kawaguchi, writer of the ‘Before the Coffee Gets Cold’ series, will be discussing his novel ‘Before We Say Goodbye,’ the series’ fourth book, as part of Dubai’s Emirates Airline Festival of Literature on Feb. 2.

Taking place from Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, also known as Emirates LitFest, is the Middle East’s biggest literary event that is held annually to celebrate the love of literature in the United Arab Emirates.

Born in Osaka, Kawaguchi is an author, playwright, and producer who is known for his 2015 novel ‘Before the Coffee Gets Cold’ which follows several characters as they travel back in time before returning when their coffee gets cold.

‘Before We Say Goodbye’ is the fourth novel of the series, after ‘Tales from the Cafe’ and ‘Before Your Memory Fades.’ All books introduce new characters while following the same premise as the first book.

The author will be discussing the novel at Dubai Festival City’s Intercontinental Hotel from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are priced at ¥2,953 and can be purchased on Emirates LitFest’s website.

His discussion will be moderated by British presenter and reporter Amandeep Bhangu.

Kawaguchi took part in the Emirates LitFestival’s 14th edition in 2022, where he shared his appreciation for his readers with Arab News Japan.

“I’m so honored that my stories are read by readers from different languages and cultures. I believe we all share this universal feeling for our beloved ones, and this feeling can go beyond walls of languages and cultures,” he said.
