Renowned Japanese pianist Alice Sara Ott will be performing at the Dubai Opera this April.

The star pianist is returning to public performance after battling multiple sclerosis.

Her upcoming concert at the Opera, titled “Echoes of Life” will be a visual treat as well as an aural one, for it is accompanied by a rare digital video installation.

Partnering with architect Hakan Demirel, Ott brings to life a presentation that mirrors the essence of her music — creating architectural spaces that dance to the rhythm of her piano.

“(Echoes of Life) is a reflection on the thoughts that influence and change our lives. It shows the path, the journey I took that made me the person I see myself today,” Ott was quoted by Classical Music Today.

The program spans a rich variety of pieces, featuring compositions from Francesco Tristano, Chopin, Ligeti, and more, including Ott’s own creations. Each piece is carefully chosen to reflect life’s journey, from its beginnings to the complexities of growth and the pursuit of identity.

“By interpreting composers who challenged the system and redefined music, my role is to carry this spirit forward by not reproducing bygone traditions and limitations,” the artist continues, explaining her choice of repertoire.

In fact, “Echoes of Life” is actually a live performance of the album of the same name, released by Ott in 2021. “It’s a soundtrack that holds the past, shows the present, and carries us to the future,” explains the star pianist.

The evening will begin with Tristano’s “In The Beginning Was”, and ends with Ott’s own “Lullaby To Eternity”.

Tickets for the event are available in a range of categories, starting from Dhs 190. The show will begin at 8:00pm on April 24.
