DUBAI: Hiromi Fyfe is a Japanese artist and dancer who specializes in traditional Japanese dance and Spanish Flamenco music style.

A special musical and dancing event titled “Encuentro del Flamenco” was held recently at Sima Performing Arts in Dubai where Hiromi Fyfe was part of along with 3 top artists from Spain: dancer Antonio Molina “El Choro”, guitarist Juan Campallo, singer Jesús Corbacho and Japanese flamenco dancer Miyuki Ryuko where everyone felt the rhythm, color and magic of the art of Flamenco.

Fyfe told Arab News Japan: “As a member of Japanese Theatre company since I was 10 years old, I wanted to improve my ability to project emotion and my grandmother who used to be a professional dancer suggested that I explore Flamenco dancing due long history and storytelling through expression.”

Fyfe said that her career was established at the age of 17. “Over time, I have studied the long history of Flamenco, and I try to embody many of individual stories into each of my dances using my own experiences and emotions to convey a story without words.”

“Being Japanese and part of a Theatre company, it was important to be able to showcase traditional Japanese Dance, and while my passion is Flamenco, I enjoy preforming traditional Japanese dance when possible,” she added.

About the challenges that she faced during her career, Fyfe said: “The biggest challenge has always relocating countries with the family every 4 years or so, it means establishing fresh relationships with flamenco groups and Artists each time we move, while at the time this seemed like the biggest challenge.”

Fyfe is a founder of ‘Casa del arte Dubai’ organization for arts and entertainment, and she said that the name of the company “was conceived by my friend and respected artist Cristina Aguilera Medina when she came to Dubai last April. Casa del arte translates to “Home of Art” where we will welcome many artists to collaborate in harmony.”

Fyfe moved to Dubai in 2012 and it was her first time living away from Japan, she said: “It was such a culture shock for me from the weather, the roads, the buildings and what seemed like very little surrounding nature. However, once I visited the Desert and heard the peaceful sound of silence, the color change of the sand at sunrise and sun set and experienced traditional Arabic calligraphy and building architecture I found much of what love Art right here in Dubai.”

Regarding her upcoming projects, Fyfe said: “I’m planning to bring artists from Spain in January 2025 like dancer Cristina Aguilera Medina, singer Miguel Lavi and guitarist David Caro where they will perform their original story “Emuná” at Toda arts. Also, I’m planning to do “Tablao night”, a show where you can enjoy while you have dinner At Lola Taberna Española restaurant in Dubai.”
