Nintendo’s new Animal Crossing: New Horizons may become one of the best-selling video games of all time in Japan, according to reports.
Popular Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu reported that the new game sold 1.88 million copies the first three days it was released.
Those numbers were bigger than any other Nintendo Switch or Animal Crossing game.
Despite the coronavirus outbreak and its threat to affect shipments and production, the release of the new Animal Crossing title has also increased Nintendo Switch sales, with more than 392,000 consoles sold in Japan only last week.
The record sales were aided by the release of the special edition Animal Crossing themed Nintendo Switch, as well as the new coral pink Switch Lite.
The two new additions made up almost 70 percent of all Switch consoles sold last week, according to Famitsu’s data.
The new Animal Crossing game allows its players to enter a social simulation, in which the player moves through a deserted island and hangs out with animals or other players.
