TOKYO: Bandai Namco Group says it will present a “life-size” Gundam robot at Osaka Kansai Expo 2025 in its “GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION.”
Under the label “Life is spreading into the future,” the pavilions intended to “connect people across the globe through GUNDAM and aims to provide the opportunity to think about the future.”
Broadcasted in 1979, “Mobile Suit Gundam” depicted a world where GUNDAM exists in a fictional era in which humans live in space in the “Universal Century.”
An 18-meter moving Gundam came to fruition in Yokohama in 2020. Now Bandai Namco has formed a new interpretation of what the “Universal Century” is, “with programs that can realize future hopes and dreams by combining GUNDAM and futuristic technology.”
“The GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION depicts a world where life in space has become commonplace,” Bandai Namco revealed. “Such a world will have easy access to space stations via orbital elevators or have mobile suits as a more familiar presence to humanity.”
There will be a life-sized GUNDAM statue at the Expo, with its hand held high and pointing into the sky, symbolizing “looking ahead to the future and opening a new space age with humanity.”
“The future of humanity living in space is coming closer, albeit gradually but with certainty. By then, we believe that GUNDAM will not be a weapon but be something to co-exist with us.”
The Osaka-Kansai Expo will open on April 13.
