ABU DHABI: Louvre Abu Dhabi announced the fifth edition of its annual Art Here exhibition, expanding its reach to include contemporary artists from the GCC, Japan and MENA with a GCC connection.
Organized in collaboration with Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille, this year’s exhibition explores the theme “Shadows,” reflecting on the interplay of light and darkness in architecture, art and poetry.
Curated by Swiss Japanese artist Sophie Mayuko Arni, Art Here 2025 invites artists specializing in sculpture and immersive outdoor installations to submit proposals from Feb. 26 to April 30.
The exhibition will showcase artworks under the museum’s iconic dome, drawing inspiration from the traditional aesthetics of both the Arabian Gulf and Japan. The concept of In’Ei (Japanese for shadow) aligns with regional architectural elements such as mashrabiyya windows and shoji screens, emphasizing the beauty of light and shade.
Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, highlighted the exhibition’s growth and its role in fostering cultural exchange: “This year, we are excited to extend our call to Japan, broadening the exhibition’s geographical and cultural horizons. Featuring sculptures and installations suited for outdoor spaces, this edition continues to celebrate the evolving dialogue between cultures.”
Peter Harrison, CEO of Richard Mille EMEA, noted the milestone of five years of artistic excellence, emphasizing the significance of including Japanese artists: “Art remains a powerful force for uniting diverse perspectives, fostering meaningful dialogue, and inspiring creativity on a global scale.”
The exhibition serves as a platform for artists to reinterpret how shadows shape our perception of space and form, encouraging innovative artistic expressions. Selected artworks will compete for the prestigious Richard Mille Art Prize.
