A “Tsukiyo Nights” event was held on March 13 at The Garden Concept in Dubai.
Organized by Koi Water Barn Dubai, Mucharaka Tea and Roseleaf Café , the event showcased the harmony between Japanese and Arabic traditions through live music, a collaborative art showcase, handcrafted fashion, and exquisite cuisine.
The event was attended by Consul-General of Japan in Dubai, IMANISHI Jun and other guests.
Saya Pitham, Executive Director of Koi Water Barn Dubai told Arab News Japan the main highlights of the event: “Tsukiyo Nights was an exceptional gathering—intimate, atmospheric, and a beautiful celebration of both Japanese and Arabic cultures in this Holy Month of Ramadan. The cool spring air and beautifully transformed venue at The Garden Concept set the perfect stage for the evening”.
The event featured various activities such as a rare musical collaboration between Japanese koto artist Mai Taniguchi and Emirati violinist Jabir Al Maazmi, blending their traditional sounds seamlessly.
It also featured a display of Japanese and Arabic calligraphy by Kayoko Sotowa and Omar Safa, where guests could take home personalized pieces in both scripts.
A fashion fusion featuring vintage Japanese kimonos from Japan Style, modern Emirati abayas by Terth, and handcrafted jewelry by Kluna, made with natural Japanese pearls was also on display.
Ikebana floral arrangements by the Ohara School of Ikebana, with flowers sponsored by Bliss Flower Boutique and an authentic Japanese tea experience provided by Mucharaka Tea, paired with bespoke desserts created by Roseleaf Café were featured.
“The evening beautifully captured the harmony between Japanese and Arab traditions, showing how naturally these cultures complement each other,” she added.
About the challenges of organizing the event, Pitham said: “The biggest challenge was ensuring equal representation of both Japanese and Arab cultures across all aspects—music, art, fashion, and food. Most cultural events tend to focus on a single tradition, but our vision was to highlight their shared aesthetics and deep-rooted connections.”
“Bringing together multiple artists, vendors, and collaborators from different backgrounds required trust, coordination, and a leap of faith from everyone involved. But the result—a meaningful and authentic cultural exchange—made every challenge worth it,” he added.
Pitham mentioned that the response of the event was overwhelmingly positive from both the guests and exhibitors where the attendees loved the depth of cultural immersion and how seamlessly the two traditions blended.
“The event attracted a diverse and international crowd, represented by many different nationalities, all brought together by a shared appreciation for cultural exchange. Dubai thrives on diversity, collaboration, and inclusion, and this event was a perfect testament to that spirit” Pitham said.
Regarding Koi Water Barn Dubai upcoming activities, Pitham said: “Organizing Tsukiyo Nights was an incredibly inspiring and gratifying experience. It demonstrated what women can accomplish when we come together and work for a common cause, objective, and vision”.
“Despite the short timeline, we were able to bring everything together thanks to the enthusiasm and support of our exhibitors, vendors, and sponsors. Their willingness to collaborate and participate played a huge role in making the event a success.”
“We are a family business with over 40 years of direct trade with Japan. Because of this, it’s always important for us at Koi Water Barn to align with businesses that authentically highlight Japan and its culture in a positive and meaningful way. We strive to do this not only through our work but also through educational initiatives like Koi Kids, which introduces children to the beauty of koi and Japanese traditions in a fun, interactive way. Looking ahead, we are also planning a koi exhibition in Dubai, offering the public a closer look at these magnificent fish and the culture surrounding them.”
“As for another Tsukiyo Nights, if we do it again, it will have to be just as special, unique, and unforgettable. Stay tuned,” she added.
