LEGO builder Jumpei Mitsui has presented a replica of the infamous artwork, The Great Wave off Kanagawa by artist Katsushika Hokusai, using LEGO blocks displayed at Osaka’s Hankyu Brick Museum.

Jumpei Mitsui’s latest work utilizes bricks to depict both the wave, and the surrounding boats that are present in the original Japanese artwork.

The blue and white, three-dimensional piece is one of LEGO builder Mitsui’s many pieces, as he is known for creating sculptures of structures, characters and even animals, the artist also takes on commission work.

Lego’s website states that Japan-based craftsman Jumpei is “the youngest LEGO Certified Professional. He became a professional LEGO builder when he was a student at the University of Tokyo.”

Mitsui has produced work for many companies, displayed in a range of countries including Thailand and Malaysia.

The artist also has a YouTube channel where he posts videos of him piecing together some of his works for viewers, while also demonstrating how he does it.

LEGO recognizes that “many people who have seen his works rediscover the unlimited possibility of LEGO bricks.”

The Hankyu Brick Museum, launched in April 2017, displays many structures made using LEGO bricks, including an array of scenic Japanese spots.
