TOKYO: Nearly 130 robots of 90 types are on display until August 31 at the Museum of Innovation Science and Technology (Tokyo Miraikan).
“Famous” robots drawn from Manga’ culture were exhibited, such as Peper (of SoftBank company) or the Asimo robot (Honda), give substance to the fictions imagined about a hundred years ago when the word robot was invented by the Czech writer Karel Capek, and by a science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.
The “You and Robots” exhibition doesn’t only display more recent robots but traces the history of the first android robots, such as the first Japanese biped robot that was created in 1973 and was called Wabot -1.
Part of the exhibition displayed robots that react to emotions. Moreover, visitors could interact with Orihime, a robot marketed to certain cafes and restaurants in Tokyo acting serving customers.
Jinki type- zero, a gigantic robot from the JR East railway company, impressive in its size, is reminiscent of the robots of anticipation manga whose applications are intended to transport heavy loads and fragile materials.
Pet robots were very popular in the exhibit, like Sony’s AIBO android dogs, who respond well to commands.
