LOS ANGELES: Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s “Drive My Car” won the Oscar for International Feature Film at the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony, held in Los Angeles on Sunday.

This is the first time that a Japanese film has won the Oscar for the category since “Departures,” directed by Yojiro Takita, won the then best foreign language film award in 2009.

Drive My Car, nominated in four categories at the 94th Academy Awards, missed the Oscars for Adapted Screenplay and Directing.
