The world’s largest sustainable youth fashion programme Junk Kouture will be hosting an event entitled “Junk Kouture City Final in Abu Dhabi” at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi, UAE on June 24.

Junk Kouture is a creative youth challenge that promotes the importance of sustainability and educates about the issues surrounding climate change. The competition aims to empower local talents to unleash their creative potential while simultaneously educating them about sustainable design through the conversion of an item categorized as “junk” into fashion outfits, in order to drive growth towards a circular fashion system.

For several months, schools across the UAE have been working to create imaginative outfits produced completely from recyclable materials. There have been over 40 submissions that have been selected to progress through to the Abu Dhabi City Final.

The Abu Dhabi City Final of Junk Kouture offers students with the opportunity to showcase their sustainable designs in a catwalk event in front of a judging panel that will decide whether individuals will be able to secure a place at the World Final of Junk Kouture, which will take place in November 2022.

The World Final of Junk Kouture will see 10 UAE talents compete against international participants from Milan, Paris, London, New York, Dublin and beyond. There will be several awards in this competion, which include, six individual City Designer Awards and the first ever Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year Award.

The event will present a star-studded judging panel, featuring Fatema Aref Almulla from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Syrian-born fashion designer Rami Al Ali, YouTuber and presenter Haifa Beseisso and Co-Founder of CTZN Cosmetics, Aleena Khan.

The tickets to the UAE Grand Final will be available on Platinumlist.net from May 9 and will be priced at AED 100.

Individuals interested in fashion, sustainability or art are encouraged to attend the event for an opportunity to observe the “fashion designers and circular engineers of tomorrow” present their Junk Kouture creations live and on the catwalk in Abu Dhabi.
