Tokyo: Japan’s Studio Ghibli Inc., which produces animation films directed by Hayao Miyazaki, will become a subsidiary of Nippon Television Network Corp., the broadcaster announced Thursday.

NTV will acquire Studio Ghibli shares to become the top shareholder with a 42.3 percent stake in terms of voting rights and sign a contract with the studio to support its management.

NTV will send executives to Studio Ghibli, but the studio’s independence in terms of animation production will be respected, the broadcaster said.

Studio Ghibli will continue to focus on the production of animation films and the operation of Ghibli Museum in Tokyo’s Mitaka and Ghibli Park in Aichi Prefecture, central Japan.
