All Nippon Airways on Monday launched a route connecting Narita International Airport near Tokyo and the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok.
Using Airbus A320neo small aircraft, ANA will offer two round-trip services a week until March 28 and three from the following day.
A ceremony to mark the opening of the route planned at the Narita airport was canceled due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus.
Instead, ANA cerebrated the opening with a few officials, including executive officer Yohei Ishida.
Of the 146 seats, 46 were booked for the first flight from Narita to Vladivostok, and 92 for that from Vladivostok. Both flights had been fully booked as of the end of February, according to ANA.
"We've decided to open the route as planned because no coronavirus infection case has been confirmed in the Russian Far East region," Ishida told reporters.
