TOKYO: Several NTT Docomo services and the company’s information portal site were hit by a cyber-attack on Thursday, Japanese local media reported.
NTT Docomo, one of Japan’s main telecommunications companies, said the information portal site “goo” and some of Docomo’s services experienced system problems since around 5:27 a.m. on Thursday.
The problem was caused by a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack that targeted NTT Docomo with a large amount of data.
A week ago, Japan Airlines also suffered a cyber-attack. According to the airline, it suffered communication problems from 7:24 a.m. on December 26.
Passengers were reportedly unable to check in their luggage, and both domestic and international flights were affected, with several delays. The airline’s smartphone app was also affected. Overseas bases did not appear to be affected.
JAL said it was investigating the matter and trying to identify the source of the attack.
