Asia’s largest startup conference, SusHi Tech Tokyo 2025, will take place from May 8 to 10, focusing on AI, quantum technology, and foodtech.

Tokyo Governor KOIKE Yuriko announced the event’s key details at Tokyo Innovation Base, emphasizing its role in shaping future societies through cutting-edge innovation. The first two days will cater to businesses, while the final day will be open to the public.

Launched in 2023, SusHi Tech Tokyo, also known as Sustainable High City Tech Tokyo, aims to build sustainable cities through advanced technology. The initiative harnesses diverse ideas, digital expertise, and cutting-edge innovation to address global challenges, including demographic shifts, environmental and energy concerns, aging infrastructure and the preservation of traditional culture.

Koike emphasized that SusHi Tech Tokyo 2025 will focus on rapidly evolving fields aimed at shaping society in the 21st century and contribute to solving pressing global issues. The event, hosted at Tokyo Big Sight, will showcase futuristic solutions in these sectors.

According to a press release, the 2025 event is set to be even larger, featuring 500 startups, 5,000 business meetings, and an anticipated 50,000 visitors.

The number of exhibiting major corporations has increased from 29 to around 40, while city and country pavilions have nearly tripled.

Among the notable speakers lined up for the event are Taro Shimada, President and CEO of Toshiba Corporation; Ashley Grosh, Vice President of Breakthrough Energy, a venture founded by Bill Gates; and Caroline Winnett, Executive Director of Berkeley SkyDeck, UC Berkeley’s global startup hub.

A highlight of SusHi Tech Tokyo 2025 will be the startup pitch competition, SusHi Tech Challenge. Applications opened on Nov. 1, 2024, with 20 semifinalists to be selected in March to present their pitches before a panel of investors and ecosystem leaders.
