TOKYO: Casio Computer announced on Thursday that it will work with Egypt’s Ministry of Education and Technical Education on a mathematics education project in Egypt. The initiative is aimed at advancing mathematics education through the utilization of scientific calculators in public secondary schools.

Egypt’s Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif and WATANABE Shigeru, Casio’s Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa, signed a memorandum of understanding to seal the project.

Casio has been working with Egypt’s Ministry of Education and Technical Education since 2018 on the GAKUHAN program, providing training for some 20,000 secondary school mathematics teachers. Egypt is working to transform its educational environment under its Egypt Vision 2030 program.

Under the agreement, Casio will provide training using scientific calculators for teachers at public secondary schools. The company will develop teaching materials that incorporate the use of scientific calculators in solving real-life problems and help to foster critical thinking and proactive learning skills.

Casio has pursued its GAKUHAN educational activities since the 1990s, working to promote the use of scientific calculators in schools worldwide and contribute to educational development by providing teacher training and developing teaching materials.
