
TOKYO: Japan's industrial production for April fell 9.1 percent from the previous month, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Friday.
The seasonally adjusted production index for the manufacturing and mining sectors stood at 87.1 against 100 for the base year of 2015. In the previous month, the index was down 3.7 percent.
The April result compared with the median forecast of a 5.1 percent drop among 17 economic research institutes surveyed by Jiji Press.
The shipment index stood at 85.0, down 8.8 percent, and the inventory index at 106.1, down 0.3 percent.
Production at manufacturers is expected to decrease 4.1 percent in May and rise 3.9 percent in June, the ministry said.
