
TOKYO: Japanese mobile phone operator SoftBank Corp. is poised to launch a 20-gigabyte service plan for 2,980 yen ($28.78) a month in March 2021, in a move to vie with domestic rival NTT Docomo Inc., it was learned Monday.
SoftBank is expected to announce the low-cost mobile service plan on Tuesday.
Price competition among major Japanese mobile phone carriers is heating up, following a call for cuts in fees from the administration of Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.
Earlier this month, NTT Docomo announced the launch next March of its “ahamo” 20GB plan with a monthly fee of 2,980 yen.
