Tokyo Financial Award 2020 announce winning businesses

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) hosted the “Tokyo Financial Award” and recently announced the winners of the competition.

The award ceremony had two components: the “financial innovation category” and the “ESG investment category.”

In the “financial innovation category” this fiscal year, there are 25 themes for B2C services and 5 themes for B2B services, all based on the needs and issues regarding financial services brought forth by Tokyo residents and Tokyo-based businesses.

The top three winners in this category were:

  1. Paygilant (Israel), which provides technology which utilizes six innovative fraud intelligence sets, to determine whether a digital transaction is legitimate or fraudulent

  2. Credify Pte. Ltd. (Singapore), which provide “idX (Identity Exchange)” based on the idea of “Self-Sovereign” and “Decentralized” Identity which the user manages their personal information and controls the disclosure scope of personal information by himself/herself

  3. CrowdLoan Inc. (Japan), which proposed to add the function to improve the credit examination with the unique AI by using the existing loan data combining the external data.

The “ESG investment category” this fiscal year has been divided into two sub-categories: “ESG investments” and “SDGs.” The ESG investments category includes 8 themes while there are 17 themes in the SDGs category, corresponding to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Companies in this category included:

  1. Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (Japan): Development and promotion of “GREEN PACKAGING,” a unique eco-friendly package for the realization of a sustainable society

  2. Impact Investment Exchange (IIX) (Singapore): Issuing social bonds focusing on women’s social and economic advancement in Asia

  3. Nuveen Japan Co. Ltd. (Japan): Through investing in farmland globally, improved natural environment etc. Promoted ESG/impact investment in Japan.

  4. Pigeon Corporation (Japan): Supporting the spread of human milk banks to save the lives of premature babies
