NEW YORK: Toyota North America Inc. has set a goal of 40 percent for the proportion of electrified vehicles in all new vehicles it sells in the United States by 2025, company officials said Wednesday.
The unit of Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp. aims to raise the figure to nearly 70 percent by 2030, according to the officials.
Toyota North America plans to step up sales of electrified vehicles in view of stricter environmental regulations and the promotion of electric vehicles under the administration of US President Joe Biden.
The company also plans to announce later this year two electric vehicle models and a plug-in hybrid model for the US market, the officials said. They are expected to be released in 2022, according to media reports.
Toyota North America hopes to allow consumers to choose from multiple electrified vehicle options in line with their needs, an official said.
