TOKYO: Jordanian Ambassador to Tokyo, Lina Annab, participated this week in a panel on “Economic and Social Participation of Women in the Middle East: Challenges, Opportunities, and Business Collaboration with Japan,” a webinar organized by the Institute of Developing Economies of Japan’s External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO).
Ambassador Annab presented Jordan’s latest gender gap indicators, as well as the efforts and policy reforms aimed at bridging the gap and empowering women politically, economically and socially.
The panel aimed to highlight how women in the Middle East are facing drastic changes in their personal and professional lives, and how doors for social and economic participation are starting to open. Japan also sees this as potentially a new market for business with Middle East countries.
This symposium also aimed at creating mutual understanding between Japan and the Middle East by addressing topics such as gender equality, female entrepreneurs, COVID-19 and its impact on Middle Eastern societies, especially on women and their businesses.
