
TOKYO: Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corp. said Monday it has signed a joint research agreement with Tokyo Gas Co., Japan Renewable Energy Corp., or JRE, and others for offshore wind power generation.
Their research includes finding out the best locations for equipment to improve power generation efficiency and durability, according to a statement released by the Toshiba Corp. subsidiary.
They aim to put the developed technology into practical use by the end of this fiscal year, which ends in March 2022.
The contract was signed by five parties, with Tokyo Gas and JRE joining a research team that was started in 2018 by the Toshiba unit, Hitachi Zosen Corp. and Kyushu University’s Research Institute for Applied Mechanics.
Hitachi Zosen, Tokyo Gas and JRE will utilize their respective power plants and Kyushu University’s software.
The Toshiba unit will be in charge of analyzing and evaluating the collected data, including on weather.
