NEW YORK: Japanese brands grabbed eight of the top 10 spots in US magazine Consumer Reports’ annual vehicle reliability rankings released Thursday.
Toyota Motor Corp.’s Lexus luxury brand was rated as the most reliable, followed by Mazda Motor Corp’s Mazda and the Toyota brand.
The fourth and sixth positions went to Nissan Motor Co.’s Infiniti luxury brand and Honda Motor Co.’s Honda brand, respectively.
Among other Japanese brands, Subaru Corp.’s Subaru ranked seventh. Honda’s Acura luxury brand came eighth, and Nissan’s namesake brand ninth.
General Motors Co.’s Buick ranked fifth, while BMW Group’s Mini ranked 10th. Tesla ranked 27th, dragged down by its glitch-hit electric SUV.
The annual rankings were based on data from owners of over 300,000 automobiles.
