Makoto Uchida, president and CEO of Nissan Motor Co., said in an interview Dec. 13 that he will focus on the recovery of trust and the recovery of business results. He stressed the idea of swiftly dealing with the confusion that followed.

“We will create a situation where (subordinates) can speak,” Uchida said. He also expressed his willingness to reform the corporate culture distorted under the “dictatorial” Ghosn system.

Former President and CEO Saikawa, who resigned in September, is a management that revolves around corporate governance reforms such as the transition to a company with a nominating committee with strong authority of outside directors, and management that reduces the number of employees by more than 12,500 developed efficiency measures.

Uchida pointed out that "the previous management team made the basis for important issues."

"My mission is to make the basics clear enough,” he said.

Regarding the alliance of the three companies, which is formed with French automobile giant Renault and Mitsubishi Motors, he explained that each company must have a merit through their activities.

“We will focus on what needs to be further strengthened and how we can contribute to each company by strengthening,” he said.
