TOKYO: Fast Retailing Co., the operator of Uniqlo casual clothing stores, has closed around 40 Uniqlo stores in Shanghai on Monday, following effective lockdown measures the Chinese city implemented in response to a fresh wave of COVID-19 infections, company officials said Monday.
The closed stores accounted for nearly half of the 87 Uniqlo stores in Shanghai as of the end of February.
About 20 of the closed stores are located in the eastern part of the city and will be closed for the time being.
The other stores, in the western part of the city, are closed as requested by building owners and others.
