On May 27, representatives of the Government of Japan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan agreed on a new tax convention.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “the new convention will be signed after the necessary internal procedures have been completed by each of the two Governments.”

The latest convention will “introduce provisions for the purposes of clarifying the scope of taxation in the two countries, eliminating international double taxation and preventing tax evasion and avoidance” MOFA shared in a statement.

Although the two countries have introduced a new convention, it will not impact the convention between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics for the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income, other than between Japan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The new convention intends to promote further investments and economic exchanges.
