Carlos Ghosn the former Chairman of Nissan-Renault, was seen in Beirut on Monday evening after arriving on a private plane from Turkey according to Lebanese daily L'Orient Le Jour.
It remains unclear how Ghosn who holds Brazilian, Lebanese and French nationalities was able to leave Tokyo, where his movements and media contacts have been heavily restricted by the courts while he awaits trial on charges of alleged financial wrongdoing while at the helm of the automaker.
His trial in Japan was expected to start in April of 2020 and the circumstances of his departure have not been addressed by official sources, but Japanese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Keisuke Suzuki visited Beirut recently where he met Lebanese officials.
As per sources, it is expected that he will be holding a press conference in the coming days in the Lebanese capital where he is a partner in several businesses, including a winery, and the Lebanese government advocated on his behalf after his arrest last year.
