A damages lawsuit has been filed with a U.S. court against Japanese truck maker Hino Motors Ltd. , U.S. subsidiaries and its parent, Toyota Motor Corp., Hino said Friday.
Although the exact amount of compensation sought by the four plaintiffs, including what appears to be a U.S. transport company, is unknown, the amount is expected to exceed 5 million dollars.
According to Hino, the plaintiffs claim that they have suffered damages from past misconduct involving 2004-2021 vehicle models sold in the United States.
From December 2020, Hino temporarily stopped vehicle production at two plants in the United States and Canada, saying that there was a problem with certification tests for engines for the U.S. market.
As U.S. authorities are still investigating the matter, it is unknown whether there was any misconduct at Hino.
In a statement, Hino said that it will “take appropriate measures” in the lawsuit.
