
TOKYO: Japan’s imports of Saudi crude oil remained significant in April, reaching about 30.45 million barrels, or 35.3% of the total imports in that month, according to the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. In the previous month,
Japan’s imports of Saudi crude oil were 32.83 million barrels or 42.2% of the total.
During April, Japan’s total imports reached 86.26 million barrels, 95.2% of which, or 82.15 million barrels, was provided by five Arab countries, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman, the data showed.
In April, the UAE was the top provider, with 36.35 million barrels or 42.1% of total imports. Kuwait provided 7.86 million barrels (7.86%) Qatar supplied 5.35 million barrels (6.2%). Japan imported about 1.5 million barrels (1.7%) from Oman.
The rest of the imports came from the USA (2.1%), Central and South America (1%), Southeast Asia (0.6%), and Oceania (1%) of the total in the mentioned month, showing that Japan’s dependence on the Arab oil remained crucial for generating energy in the world’s third economy.
