TOKYO: Dozens of Japanese and people of other nationalities gathered at the Palestinian Embassy in Tokyo on Friday for a “Letters to Gaza” event in which they expressed their support for the Palestinian people who are being subjected to Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The participants wrote letters and cards sympathizing with the people of Gaza and expressing hope for peace in Palestine and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

A Japanese girl wearing a Palestinian kouffiyeh told Arab News Japan, “I visited Palestine years ago, and I cannot ignore the killing and destruction that the Palestinian people are exposed to by Israel in Gaza. I decided to express this position in a written letter today, and I will always support the Palestinian people and sympathize with them.”

An Indonesian girl wrote in her message: “I am Vanisha from Indonesia. I hope to visit Palestine one day,” while a young Japanese man wrote, “Palestine: Resistance, Peace and Human life.”

“This event is part of a campaign by the embassy to disseminate correct information about what the Palestinian people are subjected to by Israel,” Palestinian Ambassador Waleed Siam told Arab News Japan. “We hope to gain the understanding, solidarity and support of the Japanese people and we are proud to see how the Japanese stand with the Palestinian cause.”
