ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi prepared on Friday to host the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship (ADXC 2), organized by International Vision Sports Management (IVSM) and taking place at Mubadala Arena, as fighters get ready for their matches.

ADXC made its debut in 2023, introducing a novel ruleset that captivated fans. The first event delivered entertaining matches, and the second edition promises even more excitement with compelling matchups and significant appeal to MMA fans, featuring notable UFC names on the main card.

With the biggest jiu-jitsu and grappling stars from around the world on the fight card and a custom-made octagon inside the Mubadala Arena, the stage is set for 14 exciting fights, including the main event featuring Aljamain Sterling versus Chase Hooper in the grappling welterweight bout and Bruno Lima versus Manuel Ribamar in the jiu-jitsu middleweight bout.

The co-main event will showcase Ffion Davies and Luana Pinheiro in the ADXC cage in the grappling catchweight bout, while Pablo Lavalessi will face Espen Mathiesen in the jiu-jitsu welterweight bout.

These matchups will showcase the pinnacle of skill and athleticism in these disciplines, turning the arena into a battleground of intense competition.

Bruno Lima expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m here to show that my place is here. I may not be the most famous guy, but in the end, my jiu-jitsu always proves itself, and I can’t wait to prove it once again.”

Manuel Ribamar shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m very happy to have been chosen to participate in this edition of the tournament. I’m also pleased that the next event will be held in my country, Brazil, which will give the Brazilian players a showcase of skills and open new horizons. I believe they will be excited to participate.”

“I’m confident that I’m fully prepared to fight the fight, despite being the first time fighting inside the cage, but jiu-jitsu skills remain the most important factor, and I look forward to showcasing my special style and skills in defense and attack,” he added.

The co-main event features a clash between Abu Dhabi World Pro champion Bruno Lima and his nemesis from the 2020 European Open final, Manuel Ribamar. Their diverse grappling styles promise a captivating showdown, with Lima’s unorthodox guard playing against Ribamar’s outside passing, creating a dynamic and entertaining spectacle.

Mohammed Jassim Al Hosani, the official matchmaker for ADXC, revealed plans to expand the tournament’s reach with the launch of the third edition in Brazil on March 2.

“As the global capital of jiu-jitsu and grappling, Abu Dhabi is dedicated to providing unparalleled support for this sport and organizing exceptional events that embody the spirit of sportsmanship and mutual respect,” said Al Hosani. “We call on all athletes participating in this edition to showcase their skills and determination and achieve a noteworthy accomplishment, inspiring future generations of athletes.”

Al Hosani emphasized the inclusion of Emirati players in the tournament, including the likes of Mohammed and Omar Al Suwaidi. Furthermore, he mentioned that Khaled Al Shehhi, the national team player and Asian Games gold medalist, will be part of ADXC 3.
