ABU DHABI: Mohammed Al-Suwaidi secured a decisive win at the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship on Friday at Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City, making him the tournament’s first Emirati champion.

Al-Suwaidi, who is a member of the jiu-jitsu national team, defeated South Korean Seonghyeon Joo in a gripping three-round showdown in the Grappling (Lightweight) category, showcasing exceptional skills that led to a unanimous decision by the judges in his favor.

“I am overwhelmed by this achievement and honored to become the first Emirati to win the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship,” Al-Suwaidi said. “I extend my sincere thanks to HE Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohamed Alhashmi and the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation for their continued support.

“It was a wonderful experience to step into the cage for the first time,” he continued. “I have put in a great effort during a month and a half of training with expert coaches in grappling and jiu-jitsu. I am honored to dedicate this victory to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the president of the United Arab Emirates.”
