TOKYO: Tokyo Governor KOIKE Yuriko on Monday received Sebastian Coe, the President of the World Athletics Federation, and Executive Head Jon Ridgeon to discuss the 20th World Athletics Championships, which will take place in Tokyo from September 13 to 21, 2025.

The Governor was assisted by OGATA Mitsugi, the President of the Federation of Japanese Athletic Associations (JAAF) and the local organizing committee.

During the meeting at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Koike thanked Coe and praised the efforts in achieving new environmental standards and promoting women, which came about through their past collaboration during the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.

Coe offered his sympathies for the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake and suggested that the athletics world could do something to help the victims.

Coe said he hoped that the athletes at the World Championships would receive enthusiastic support in Tokyo, with the championships coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the JAAF.
