DUBAI: Japan Oil Development Co. (JODCO) brought genuine Japanese essence to the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) that took place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) from Aug. 31 to Sept. 8.

JODCO INPEX brought genuine and impressive Japanese perception to the ADIHEX 2024 through presenting traditional showpieces ranging from falconry shows and falconry equipment making to tea ceremonies and musical performances.

Hayato Yamada from JODCO shared exclusively with Arab News Japan the main highlights at this year’s edition of ADIHEX: “INPEX/JODCO has been participating in ADIHEX since its second edition, showcasing various aspects of Japanese culture, including the Japanese falconry. This year, we have invited  Otsuka from the SUWA Falconry Preservation Society, Ishikawa, a falconry glove supplier, and Mizuki, a master candy artist, to join us. In addition, we have arranged performances by Japanese drummers (Wadaiko), Koto players (Zither/Harp), Shamisen players (Three-Stringed Guitar), Chado (Japanese tea ceremony), and Nihon-buyo (Japanese traditional dance)”.

“Furthermore, we have been promoting Falconry cultural exchange between the UAE and Japan since January 2024 together with Emirates Falconers’ Club under the Falconry collaboration agreement between us executed last ADIHEX. In January 2024, we invited Japanese falconers to Abu Dhabi for a falconry exchange, and we are planning to invite UAE falconers to Japan for a similar exchange in early 2025. A highlight of this year’s exhibition is the display of videos showcasing the experiences of this cultural exchange,” he added.

About the response and feedback from the people who came to the JODCO booth at this year’s edition of the ADIHEX event, Yamada said, “Many visitors have been able to experience and enjoy the Japanese culture showcased at our booth. This year, we have placed a monument inspired by the Goshawk at the center of our booth, which has received positive feedback.”

“Cultural exchange is not about one-sided communication but rather about mutual respect for each other’s cultures. That is why ADIHEX, which focuses on various hunting cultures and cultural preservation from different countries, is an ideal platform for introducing Japanese culture,” he added.

Regarding JODCO’s upcoming projects and activities following this year’s edition of the ADIHEX event, Yamada said, “We aim to further strengthen the falconry exchange program between the UAE and Japan in collaboration with the Emirates Falconers’ Club. Additionally, we are committed to contributing to developing further respect and understanding between both countries in areas such as environmental conservation and wildlife conservation.”

“We are also planning to participate in next year’s ADIHEX, and we would be honored if you could visit our booth during the exhibition,” he added.

Japanese Candy Sculpting “Amezaiku” artist Takahiro Mizuki mentioned that he was very happy for his return to ADIHEX 2024, he said: “I’m so glad to see people being surprised at my instant candy making for their first time witness. Also, I am very happy to meet savvy kids again. They are my best friends waiting for my Amezaiku every year”.

Japanese traditional dance (Nihon-buyo) expert, Masayo Hamada mentioned that this was her first participation at JODCO booth at ADIHEX and she was very pleased that passing people at the booth were excited to watch her traditional dance performance.

Founder of Shoten Taiko Drummers, James said about this year’s participation at ADIHEX:” Shoten are pleased to have been invited to perform on the JODCO INPEX Group booth for a 3rd year running at ADIHEX, showcasing both traditional and modern styles of Japanese taiko drumming. The ADIHEX audience is always both curious and extremely receptive in equal measures of our performances, particularly the younger audience members who often want to join in and have a try themselves”.

Noriko Otsuka from the SUWA Falconry Preservation Society mentioned that she was very pleased to meet people at this year’s edition of ADIHEX and sharing her experience and knowledge about Falconry and the importance of sharing Falconry culture between UAE and Japan.

Yuka Hiraiwa from Urasenke Abu Dhabi Study Group mentioned that many people were pleased for the Japanese tea ceremony experience at JDOCO booth and they want to get information to buy genuine matcha for their houses.

Japanese Koto player Mai Taniguchi mentioned that this was her first participation at JODCO booth at ADIHEX and she was very pleased that passing people at the booth were listening to her traditional music performance.
