DUBAI: The Consul-General of Japan in Dubai, IMANISHI Jun, awarded Dubai-based Japanese cafe Yamanote Atelier’s founder Sheikh Suhail Al Maktoum the Chief of Mission award for his effort towards introducing authentic Japanese pastries in the UAE.

Established in 2013, the bakery is known for its Japanese desserts that are loved by many UAE locals and residents.

The pastries are baked with fresh Japanese ingredients imported from Japan. The cafe has introduced various branches across Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

“I’m deeply honored to receive this award from the Consul-General,” Al Maktoum said during his speech. “It is a privilege to contribute to the promotion and celebration of Japanese culture. We are grateful for this recognition.”

The Consul-General acknowledged the collective efforts that contributed to strengthening bilateral ties: “Sheikh Suhail, the Yamanote supporting team, the raw material supplier in Japan, Amin [Abbas], the Arab News team, editors, interpreters, and many others have been involved in raising the level of relations between Japan, the UAE, and Dubai.”

“We sincerely hope that Yamanote, through people’s stomachs, and Arab News Japan, through words and photos on social media, will contribute to build the bridge between our two countries,” he said.

Other awardees of the Chief of Mission award included Arab News Japan and freelance journalist Amin Abbas.
