DUBAI: Consul-General of Japan in Dubai, IMANISHI Jun, awarded Arab News Japan freelance journalist Amin Abbas the Chief of Mission award for his outstanding coverage of various Japanese-related cultural events in the GCC throughout the last decade. 

With experience spanning more than a decade, Abbas has played a key role in promoting anime and other Japanese cultural elements through interviewing key figures and attending various events all over the United Arab Emirates. Since joining Arab News Japan in 2019, he has written many articles related to anime, art and pop culture.

He stays in touch with local Japan-related communities in order to authentically represent them. Additionally, he has also helped spread the word about Arab companies expanding in Japan, further promoting regional talents globally. 

The journalist received the award on Monday during a ceremony held at the Consul-General’s residence in Dubai. During his speech, he thanked Imanishi and Arab News Japan for their constant support throughout the last few years. 

“I will give my credit to the team of Arab News Japan (for supporting me) since the beginning and having a role in the exchange between UAE and Japan,” Abbas said in his speech. “I look forward to continuing this path along with everyone’s support.”

Other awardees of the Chief of Mission award included Arab News Japan and Yamanote Atelier founder Sheikh Suhail Al Maktoum.
