CEO of Bapco Refining and former President of the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company Abdulrahman A. Hussain Jawahery was honored with Japan’s Foreign Minister’s Commendation on Nov. 17.

At a special award ceremony held in Bahrain hosted by OKAI Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Jawahery received the award for his outstanding contributions to promoting Japanese culture in Bahrain and strengthening ties between two nations.

The reception was attended by senior officials, dignitaries and distinguished guests.

According to a statement from the Japanese Embassy in Bahrain, a key highlight of Jawahery’s contributions is his pivotal role in establishing the Bahrain-Japan Friendship Garden, which commemorates the first official visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Japan in 2012.

Jawahery led the planning and development of this garden, the first of its kind in Bahrain, located in the Al-Areen Wildlife Park.

Officially opened in 2015, the garden has become a cultural landmark, promoting Japanese traditions and strengthening bilateral ties, with its inauguration attended by Bahraini Princess Sabeeka bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa and other dignitaries.

Jawahery also played a crucial role in fostering collaborations between Japanese companies and Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company.

His strong relationships with leading Japanese firms have been pivotal in several key projects, including the introduction of carbon capture technology by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries nearly 20 years ago, and since then he has continuously promoted this technology to other Bahrani enterprises.

His other contributions include the construction of a large-scale urea resin plant utilizing JGC’s cutting-edge technology, and the implementation of Yokogawa’s engineering solutions to enhance production efficiency.
