TOKYO: Japanese television personality MINO Monta, who was recognized by Guinness World Records as the host with the most live TV appearances in a week, has died at the age of 80.
In 2006, when Mino appeared on 11 TV shows a week, he was recognized by Guinness World Records as the TV host with the most hours of live TV appearances in a week.
In 2008, he broke his own record and was regarded as the world’s busiest TV host until Russian TV host Vladimir Soloviev surpassed him in 2019.
At the peak of his career, he featured on 16 regular programs and was called “Japan’s busiest TV host.”
His light-hearted way of speaking and quick-witted comments made him a popular host on programs such as “Mino Monta no Asa Zuba!” and “Quiz Millionnaire.”
Mino, who was known for having a permanent smile on a well-tanned face, choked on some meat on January 16 and fell unconscious.
