OSAKA: Following the “Sand Alliance” between Jordan and Tottori Prefecture, a partnership that builds on their mutual connection to sand, acting Commissioner General Shifa Zghoul Haddad paid a visit to the Prefecture on Saturday.

The Kingdom of Jordan and Tottori Prefecture are each holding an exhibition on the theme of sand at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. The prefecture has recreated the Tottori Sand Dunes in a corner of the Kansai Regional Association pavilion, filling a mirrored room with 10 tons of sand from the dunes.

This has been a popular topic on social media, as it is like the Jordan Pavilion, which brought in 22 tons of red desert sand.

Acting Commissioner General Zghoul inspected the area around the Tottori Sand Dunes with Governor HIRAI Shinji with the two officials exchanging art made with sand from Jordan and Tottori.

Zghoul said, “I would like Governor Hirai to visit Jordan. I think we could plan various ideas together with the Jordanian government and create some wonderful collaboration. The sand dunes are truly amazing. “

A ceremony to formalize the partnership was held at the Tottori Sand Dunes tourist information center. Governor Hirai said, “I hope that together we can promote the wonders of the sand dunes and desert to people both in Japan and overseas, and that we can have a lasting exchange.”

The prefecture has also concluded a “Sand Alliance” with the Saudi Arabia Pavilion.
