TOKYO: Sony Corp. said Thursday it will release its new PlayStation 5 home game console in Japan, the United States and several other key markets on Nov. 12, the first new PS model in seven years.
The PS5 will compete with Microsoft Corp.’s new Xbox console, set for release in November, in the holiday season.
The new Sony console will sell for 54,978 yen in Japan, according to the Japanese company’s gaming arm, Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC. Reservations will be accepted starting Friday.
The new console incorporates a high-performance memory device to deliver much faster loading times.
The PS5 Digital Edition without a disk drive, for which all game titles need to be downloaded online, will sell for 43,978 yen.
New titles to be released for the PS5 will include Square Enix Co.’s Final Fantasy XVI.
