Japan’s Seiko is taking its well-known sumo style dive watch and updating it with new winter-themed exploration features, calling it the “Ice Diver” release.
The collection, which is exclusive to the US, is sized at 45 mm in its case size with a screw-down crown at the position where four o’clock is placed.
The Seiko watch has a history with winter exploration, making it the watch of chouce for the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE) in the 60s.
Japanese explorers such as Naomi Uemura, the first person to finish a solo dog-sled run to the North Pole, and Yuichiro Miura, the oldest man to go to the top of Mount Everest, wear the Seiko watches due to its relevant features.
The Seiko watch is available in different colors including blue, green and grey and features a waffle-textured dial. The watch also showcases sapphire crystal glass and LumiBrite hands and markers.
The Seiko Prospex “Ice Diver” is water-resistant up to 200 meters and can reserve power up to 70 hours.
The new release can be found on Seiko USA where the watch is priced at around ¥ 95,000 Japanese yen or $900 USD.
