DUBAI: Japanese food company Nissin has changed up its popular Cup Noodles packaging in an effort to help reduce plastic waste.
The Cup Noodles’ plastic seals have been eliminated from the original design. It was first added in order to trap more heat, however, the new packaging features a lid equipped with a W-shaped tab, that can be secured by folding down the edges, once hot water is added to the ramen noodles.
Nissin said the new packaging could save up to an estimated 33 tons of plastic waste per year. The makeover will be applied to all regular sized Cup Noodles flavors.
However, the mini or Big Cup sizes will remain with the plastic seal.
