Uniqlo Japan aims to incentivize customers to recycle clothing by offering discount coupons in exchange for worn out garments brought to the store.

The Re.Uniqlo initiative requests customers register online and download the app before bringing up to five pieces of clothing to be traded in.

These items will be donated or will be used to make RPF, automobile material or go back into the making of Uniqlo products depending on the quality and state of the clothing.

Those who bring HEATTECH innerwear items can earn up to 200 yen in coupons per item or can get 1,000 yen per item for things like blankets or scarves.

The collecting of clothes will be on until Nov. 30, but the coupons can be used until Feb. 2022.

Uniqlo’s website highlights how this initiative intends to recycle and reuse, and they have noticed how this initiative—which started in 2006—has contributed to change by aiding refugees.

Uniqlo’s website also outlines how the reuse mission has succeeded in sending 41.11 million items to 75 countries as of August 2020 in cooperation with UNHCR, NPOs and NGOs.
