Giving KitKat chocolates to someone, mainly students before they appear for their exams, is considered a good luck charm in Japan.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise when Nestle Japan claimed that Japanese people consume almost 5 million KitKats a day.
The company is now tapping into that emotional element with a new anime KitKat promotional video.
This short animation, directed by Naoko Yamada, is part of KitKat’s new “Kikkake wa KitKat de,” or “KitKat Creates the Chance,” theme.
The video displays a couple holding hands around a wrapped KitKat which later cuts to a group of friends sharing the candy at school.
The sequence of scenes is accompanied by a narration that reads: “A chance to tell your feelings. The chance to have your heart stirred by meeting someone new. The chance to make your dream come true.”
The visual ends with Nestle Japan promoting KitKat in the classic, green tea, oat chocolate and dark chocolate flavors.
