The hit Japanese reality series “Takeshi’s Castle” is set to reboot on Amazon Prime Video in 2023.

The original series ran from 1986 to 1990, and was broadcast in more than 150 countries across the globe.

The series was hosted Japanese comedian and filmmaker Takeshi Kitano, playing the character of a count that organizes a series of physical trials to give contestants the chance to try and get to him.

In Japan, the series is known as “Fuun! Takeshi-jo” and earned a high number of followers when it was broadcast overseas, including the US, UK, Asia and South America. Its widespread popularity extended even further through several countries creating localized versions of the game show. The new series will premiere in more than 240 markets, a scale bigger than what have been possible through terrestrial television.
